3-D Shapes

First I want to say thank you and let you know that I have not totally ignored the fact that I now have 100 followers! Thanks so much for following and I have to tell you I really did have intentions for an awesome giveaway.

I wasn't quite close enough before Spring Break and for the past week I have been trying to book places for my wedding. Did you know people really plan weddings a year early? This is crazy to me. When people have to check to see if they already have a wedding for JUNE 2014 it makes me feel seriously anxious.

Anyways I also had the pleasure of being observed this week! My first two years we had unannounced observations. I thought I hated those but I have now decided the knowing is worse!

I taught by K babies the names of 3-d shapes before the lesson so I focused on the faces of the 3-d shapes during my lesson and did a few follow up lessons to reinforce the concepts.

Here is the lesson in pictures:

After the introduction and modeling with the large shapes the students used the shapes in their bags to place a smiley face on each of the flat surfaces. As students placed the smiley face down I stressed the importance of coloring the activity sheet right after so they could keep count.

I knew teaching vertices would be quite an adventure so I took small balls of play dough and had the kids stick it on the points on each of the 3-d shapes. Tomorrow they will use the play dough on their shapes from the bags!

Can I just tell you how excited they are to take these bags of shapes home-- seriously I should give these out for Christmas!

If you made it to the end of this long post you deserve a prize and I promise I work on putting together an awesome giveaway with a TPT gift card as one of the prizes!!

Snag the lesson plans for my How Many Faces? lesson plan which also includes the "I can stamp flat surfaces sheet!" for only $1.50!

Saint Patrick's Day Silliness

We were not at school for Saint Patrick's day and I was so bummed. In fact I was so bummed that I insisted on doing Saint Patrick's day this week. So what if I am a week late all the green fun can still happen.

This week the kids are using my Celebrating Saint Patrick's Day Unit from TPT. We are also in the process of trying to catch a leprechaun. Its much harder now that Saint Patrick's day has passed so we are writing letters everyday during journal time and sending them to Green Way in Greenville, Greenland (it seems like a leprechaun would live there.)

Here are some of the center activities we have been using this week!

I finally printed and laminated my Easter centers. We are slowly becoming best friends because I seem to carry them to school, home from school and even moved them to my office. But I have still yet to actually cut them out!

I hope you will stop by again tomorrow! I am posting about a lesson I did for an observation-- which was today!

Stop by Clearly Kindergarten to enter her 100 follower giveaway! If you win Prize Pack 1 you will get a copy of my Sight Word MEGA Packet!

Five For Friday- March 15th

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five For Friday! Lots of exciting things to share with you this week!!

1.  We got back from Jamaica on Monday. It was such a fun vacation. We went zip lining and visited Dunn's River Falls. We also got engaged. I was so surprised.

2. I have been working with this Pre-K baby who happens to also be my favorite (only) nephew! We have been working on his letters and he is learning so much. We have been working our way through Abby's RTI Letter Recognition Pack and will move towards the Letter Sounds Pack in the next few weeks. The letter pack is pictured below. If you have Prek or K babies who are still learning their letters  this pack is a no brainier. If your kids are past this point this year- wishlist it for next!!

3. My kids favorite activities from my MLK and American Symbols units was the book I made to read to them. I just laminated the pages and put it together. These books went right into the reading center and I just love hearing them read the books. Most have memorized the words from when I read it to them. But they are still pointing to those sight words and using beginning sound strategies to figure it out when they don't remember a word. Anyways I have added a book to my Earth Day unit and I am hoping my kids love it!

4. After we got home and picked a date for the wedding I knew I wanted to ask my bridesmaids right away. So I made these little gifts for them. I have given one out already but my sisters and best friend from college will be home for Easter so I am impatiently waiting!

5. As I reach my almost 1 year mark on TPT I am also having a fun time making over some of my older units. I am so happy that Spring Break Intersession has given me the chance to do some makeovers. If you have purchased these units please re-download. I have updated Earth DayEgg-cellent Easter Activities, and Gardening Fun! On my "to finish before the end of spring break" list are Weather Fun, Ocean Adventures, and Splendid Space.

So happy to actually get this post out on a Friday. Can I just mention how much I adore the productivity of spring break.

March Currently!

I was hoping to see my blog returned to the normal background but that hasn't happened yet.

I am going to link up for my first currently with Farley ar Oh Boy Fourth Grade.

Currently I should be packing since we leave for vacation on Monday and tomorrow we have lunch and dinner plans. I envision the packing starting about 9 pm and having a super fun wake up call at 4 am so we can make it to the airport in time. I am one of those crazies who gets to the airport insanely early-- I have missed one flight and now I am paranoid.

Now for the fun-

There is still a few hours left for my giveaway below- so if you have time enter!
